BFOIT starts new program: SCI-FY!  4/2/2005

BFOIT collaborated with Alameda Supervisor Keith Carson's office to start a new project called Science for Youth, or SCI-FY.  The new camp will be for middle school students, to compliment our high school ITLP program, which is in its 5th year.

This year (2005) is our second year and we changed the program slightly- we will have 25 students for two whole weeks instead of two sets for one week each.  The new Director is Ayodele Harrison.

BFOIT Grant 11/13/03

BFOIT, the Berkeley Foundation for Opportunities in Information Technology, part of the BCIS Group, has been awarded a three-year renewable grant of $20,000 from the Elizabeth and Stephen Bechtel, Jr. Foundation, which will allow the program to continue. BFOIT had a very successful program during 2003, expanding to a year-round program with 25 high school students and has plans to double the size to 50 students next summer, and will include middle school students as well.

Director Orpheus Crutchfield commented, "We may have turned the corner with this award- besides providing stability, we will be able to help many more deserving students now!  We would like to extend our great thanks to ICSI Chairman Elwyn Berlekamp for facilitating the contact with the Elizabeth and Stephen Bechtel, Jr. Foundation."
